Local Portrait Competition open again
Three adult artists; three youth artists; one subject selected from the ‘Mansfield Citizen of the Year’.
Expressions of Interest – Portrait artists from Mansfield and surrounds are eligible to participate and expressions of interest are advertised late February and due April 8, 2016.
The Reveal is at the end of April when artists and the public are introduced to the mystery subject. At this event they observe how an artist goes about starting a portrait with photographs and sketches in pencil or paint.
The Unveiling, held on the Thursday before the long weekend in June, is where the finished portraits are seen for the first time and the winners are chosen by a representative from the Shire and a judge from the Arts sector. The $3,200 worth of prizes for winners and runners up sponsored by Mansfield Shire. The winners in each section are acquisitive awards. Guests enjoy a banquet dinner and mad cap activities to add to the excitement of the evening.
A Mansfield Portrait Art Exhibition will run concurrently with the Three Faces Portrait Art Prize.
This should give artists, regardless of whether they enter the competition or not, an opportunity to showcase their work to visitors. Expressions of interest due April 8, 2016.
Three new categories are being added this year to include the younger members of our community. School age students will be encouraged to enter a Portrait Competition within the categories of 5 – 8 yrs, 9 – 12 yrs and 13 – 16 yrs. A short list of 6 from each category will be selected for display in the Portrait Exhibition and the winner will be announced at The Unveiling. Entries due April 15, 2016.
