Update on Victorian Interschools Drama Festival

Victorian Interschools Drama Festival - student singing on stage with arms akimbo

Arts Mansfield has pioneered the “Victorian Interschool Drama Festival” over the last 5 years, where schools from the region and even further afield come together each August to give students of junior drama the chance to develop their skills in the theatre arts.

For some students, for whom sport, the Maths Olympics, or perhaps a musical instrument does not come naturally, Drama can be an excellent way of developing an affirmation of themselves in another field.

Each year we get feedback from teachers about how valuable the event has been for some of their charges.

They also get a chance to engage and connect with kids from other high schools, boarding schools and private schools. When it comes to overcoming their self-consciousness to go on stage in front of an audience, they are all united by the same sense of triumph!

This year the award recipients included outstanding productions – of great enthusiasm and energy – from Mansfield Secondary College and Lauriston Girls School – Howqua Campus.

Keep an eye out for this date next year! It is a most heart-warming event to come and enjoy over a cold, wintry Friday in the toasty warm PAC.

Thank you to our adjudicators Sally Bird from Langwarrin and Colin Rochford from Mansfield, and to Dallas Daniels for her support in keeping the event alive and thriving!

“Thanks for today, Kammy. The kids had a great time, and really took on board the wise words from (adjudicators) Sally and Colin. I think most of them were very inspired to try it all again next year. I certainly appreciate (Arts Mansfield) making opportunities like this available for the kids at MSC who enjoy the performing arts. – Dallas”
