A PRANK AT THE PARLOUR
7 February @ 3:00 pm - 28 February @ 4:00 pm
A PRANK AT THE PARLOUR is a new comedy radio play by Longwood writer Julie van Kerkwijk, inspired by one of Spike Miligan’s many humorous stories.
Julie attended Arts Mansfield’s “Radio Play Writing Workshop” in 2019 at the Mansfield Library. This is her first produced radio play script, resulting from that weekend workshop.
Set in London in the mid-1970s, A PRANK AT THE PARLOUR follows the amusing story of popular British comedian Harry Howson as he meets up with his long-suffering theatrical agent and friend Derek Beecham at Euston’s Underground Railway Station, before they head off on one of their semi-regular Friday afternoon “pub crawls”.
But Harry is in one of his “silly moods” (he’s already had a couple of drinks!) and wants to have a bit of an “adventure” and some “fun”!
He will lead Derek down some Euston back streets before stopping in front of Leverton and Sons, one of London’s most well-known and respectable funeral parlours. The unexpected prank that Harry is about to pull on Derek – and the innocent Vincent Leverton Junior in the parlour – may well end in tears. So … who will have the last laugh when it ends?
Narrated by Roger Nolan, it features the voices of Ian Todd as Derek Beecham, Jack Arrowsmith as Harry Howson, Jeremy Kaye as Vincent Leverton Jnr and Julie Van Kerkwijk as Doctor Lily Clunes.
Broadcast as part of Radio Mansfield’s popular weekly “Radio Theatre” series, A PRANK AT THE PARLOUR can be heard throughout February 20201, every Sunday afternoon – right after the 3.00pm news – on Sunday Feb 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.
If you miss it, it’ll be your funeral!
